The Repsol Honda MotoGP team have confirmed that six-time world champion Marc Marquez will not take part in Sunday’s German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, following the injuries that the Spaniard sustained in his fifth crash of the weekend during the pre-race warm up session.

High-siding at Turn 6 during the 10-minute session, he impacted the ground, his bike and the outside circuit wall heavily in the vicious crash and was left looking visibly dazed in the aftermath, even electing to remain trackside in the immediate aftermath rather than return to his garage.

Following a medical examination, he was found to have broken a finger in his left hand but was nonetheless declared fit to ride by MotoGP’s medical team, only for the 30-year-old to then announce less than an hour before the race that he wouldn’t take part in the main race.

It brings to a close a punishing weekend at the track where he was expected to be able to at last fight for the win, underlining the state of the current factory Honda squad. Marquez has emerged victorious at the Sachsenring in every race that he has started since 2009, with his first defeat coming in Saturday’s sprint where he conceded that he was forced to settle for 11th in order to see the chequered flag.

He will not have much time to recover, either, with the next round of the championship kicking off at the TT Circuit Assen in only five days’ time.
